UN Assistant Secretary- General visit to Uganda

Ms. Izumi Nakamitsu, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Assistant Administrator for Crisis Response, had a three days visit to Uganda from 6th July to 8th July.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss displacement and see the extensive work Uganda has carried out in managing the increasing numbers of refugees.

During her visit, Ms. Nakamitsu held meetings with various senior government officials including the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sam Kuteesa and the Minister for Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Hon. Hilary Onek. And met various development partners, non-government organisations heads and the United Nations Country Team.

She also visited the Oruchinga refugee settlement in Isingiro district, Western Uganda to engage with refugees, their host community and to witness first-hand how Uganda’s inspirational refugee model works.
